History of The Altamont
Altamont Fire Company proudly protects 5000 people living in an area of 5.5 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department whose members are on a volunteer status.
Located in the Altamont section of W. Mahanoy TWP., the company was organized September 15, 1930 and chartered July 20, 1931. The first fire-fighting apparatus was purchased in August 1937. As the proud owners of Squad 367 and Engine 368, the members of the Altamont Fire Company are ready to respond to the needs of the people, whatever the emergency.
The Altamont Fire Company was established in 1931. In 1937, the company moved into the firehouse on Green Street, which is still in use today. Afer 68 years of service in this firehouse, the Altamont Fire Company, moved its firefighting equipment and apparatus to the new garage next door.
